Week 7- Networking installation

Today we installed windows server 2000.

we had to:

- install the OS
- configure the OS to run a web server

We did this 2 weeks in a row and now we are installing both Windows 2000 and 2003

i learnt how to configure windows 2000 to run a web server.

programs i have done this in before include:
xampp lite
xampp full
wamp server

I used xampp to host a website from home, which had to do with a game i was playing at the time, it accounted for account logins and scripts, forums, character information as well as server status.

Week 5 - Planning, Installing and configuring Windows server

Activity:
Suppose that you need to set up a network for an office of 20 staff
Create a list of questions that you will need to ask management to help you decide on the appropriate hardware
Create a shopping list of the hardware items you think you will need to complete the task

Draw a plan of your classroom. Mark the current location of desks, workstations and peripheral devices. You should also mark the network and power connection points.
Now observe the traffic flow from the workstations to a printer. Mark this pattern on your diagram with arrows.
You have to install a laser printer. Select an appropriate position on your plan for the printer. Will you need to arrange for network or power connections?

Practical:
Install Windows Server 2000
Configure the Server
Install IIS
Test IIS

Assessment:
Students are to work on assessment tasks, reflective journal or practice past practical exercises

Week 4 - Introduction to DHCP

Theory for the lesson -
Determining network and technical requirements

Practical tasks -

Installation of Windows Server 2000
Configure active directory
Install and configure DHCP

Introduction to DHCP -

IP networks require that each device on the network (computer, printer, router, and so on) be assigned a unique IP address. Configuring static addresses on a large network can be both time-consuming and, in the case of poor or incomplete documentation, difficult to manage.
